Daniel E. Blackston's Firebrand Fiction, 3/17/02

Welcome to Firebrand Fiction!

If you clicked onto this page expecting something hot, something fiery, and maybe slightly wicked you are in the right place!

But you're going to have to sweat out two weeks (that's 336 hrs in case you're wondering) before you can jump into the fire.

I'm going to let you in on a secret - websites can be boring. I said it. But Dave Felts here at SF Reader is an adventurous guy, and a very gutsy guy, because when I approached him about doing some fiction reviews he responded by giving me my own column and a license to do whatever I wanted. (actually, I did it because I know a good deal - and a good writer - when I see one. ed.)

And what I want to do is take you on a steamy tour through the jungles of Spec Fiction. Most of you have day-jobs (too bad) and can't get out deep to the most exotic webzines and fantastic small press sources of fiction. I'm going to do your legwork. In my Safari Pith Hat and with some very sexy companionship, I'll trudge through the bad and the banal to point you to the best fiction I can find wherever I can find it.

With a little help from the Dark Lady, Eros, (my close friend, don't you wish you knew her?) I'm going bring you reviews of free fiction every two weeks. That's right. Fiction you can read absolutely free. Eros will also see to it that we probe the riskier and hotter offerings to make sure you're never bored. And I'll see to it that the column keeps on this side of good taste. (What side are we on again?)

Oh yeah, we'll also look into some well-known books and writers and flip a review or two we don't agree with.

Firebrand Fiction is white-hot and waiting to stamp you with the mark of Great Fiction. That's , an abbreviation you'll be seeing a lot of.

Best of all, you'll get to know me and a few of my more interesting friends, like Lady E. We're always interested in hearing from you. And writers and editors, check this out, in each column one publication or story will be branded that is, certified Great Fiction, by yours truly, ringmaster Blackston.

Get ready to burn.
