The Huntsman: Winter\u2019s War is a spin-off of the Maleficent film and both a prequel and sequel to Snow White and The Huntsman, although not featuring most cast members from the original film. It’s got everything you look for in a fantasy film, from over the top costumes to extraordinary scenery.<\/p>\n

Queen Ravenna (Theron) learns her younger sister Freya (Blunt) is expecting a child. Freya has been having an affair with a nobleman, but as she’s giving birth, tragedy strikes. Grief-stricken, Freya’s magical abilities, which had not yet awoken, become active.<\/p>\n

She transforms herself into the Ice Queen and starts a life that is against any form of love. She takes children and raises them to detest affection, love and any of its equivalents, training them to be fearsome fighters. She plans to use them as an army to conquer other kingdoms.<\/p>\n

Her plans go awry when she discovers two of her best huntsmen have fallen in love with fallen: Sara (Chastain) and Eric (Hemsworth).\u00a0 Freya revenge on them is swift and merciless.<\/p>\n

Years pass (the events of Snow White and the Huntsman) and Freya learns Snow White has fallen ill. Snow White has a mirror that belonged to Ravenna and its dark power is leaking out making her sick. Freya wants to extend her powers and to achieve this she decides steal the mirror, sending her best warrior to retrieve it. Nut others want it as well….<\/p>\n

This movie had the potential to be a great film. Unrealized potential. The story was disjointed and the A-list talent hamstrung by a poor script and weak plot. While Hemsworth puts on a worthy performance, the rest of the cast fails to deliver.<\/p>\n

A positive is the\u00a0world building. The details are very well done. But I’m afraid only those who consider themselves hard core fantasy fans genre and those who sawa nd enjoyed the first movie will enjoy it.<\/p>\n
