Matt Damon once more needs rescuing, but don’t worry–this movie is far from a cliche. In fact it is one of the movies that made 2015 a great year in film. Ridley Scott’s name should already be a guarantee to you that the movie will have everything needed to make a great film.<\/p>\n

The movie starts with the crew of a Mars mission space craft exploring one of the plains of the planet (Acidalia Planitia). Their exploration is cut short by a dust storm. As they are seeking refuge, some debris knocks Mark Watney (Matt Damon) off course and into the storm. Believing him dead, members of the ship leave Mark behind to seek refuge.<\/p>\n

Mark, however, is not dead. His suit had malfunctioned and sent out a signal indicating no vital signs. He’s now stranded on Mars by himself as the members of his crew head home to Earth.<\/p>\n

Mark Returns to the conservatory created on Mars and tries to survive by attempting to farm in Martian soil with the few resources he has left. He faces at least four years before a rescue ship can be sent.<\/p>\n

A rescue mission is planned. Will it arrive in time? Mark’s food reserves are rapidly dwindling. The international community comes together to help speed the rescue mission.<\/p>\n

The end result is one of the standout films of 2015. The research for the film involved NASA, ensuring it was as realistic as it could be.\u00a0 Not as much was done with CGI, as is so often the case with contemporary films. It won two golden globes, and was even for nine Oscars.<\/p>\n

If you’re looking for a good film chock full of “real” science as part of the science fiction, The Martian is a god choice.<\/p>\n
