The sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy definitely deserves the ‘Volume 2’ suffix. The level of world building that goes into the GOTG movies is unrivaled. From start to finish it\u2019s like you\u2019re watching an outer space documentary and the only thing missing is David Attenborough dry monotone narration. Did the rest match up?\u00a0 Let\u2019s find out.<\/p>\n

GOTG Vol 2 starts with a flashback to 1970. A man plants an extra terrestrial plant on earth while a gushing damsel mentions that she married a space man. It then moves back to present day where batteries belonging to the Sovereign race are being protected from an inter-dimensional beast by the Guardians of the Galaxy.\u00a0 Groot is only a young sapling, and doesn’t provide any assistance. The Sovereign state hands Nebula to them as a reward for their work.<\/p>\n

The guardians were meant to leave the planet peacefully, but a theft by Rocket causes the Sovereign to come after them. In their flight, they end up on a planet and are soon joined by a second vessel, containing occupants that will help Peter unravel his heritage.<\/p>\n

GOTG 1 set a pretty high bar, and GOTG vol 2 has safely vaulted over. The actors are great, the directing is commendable, however, the script does have a few places where it fell short.<\/p>\n

GOTG 2 tries too hard to be a comedy. The gags are a bit too many for my liking and they keep popping up even in scenes you wouldn’t expect to be funny.\u00a0 The plot is very cohesive, but it will probably not be as enjoyable for a grown up audience as it is for a young audience. There’s too much focus on the cuteness of things and not on the action. Don\u2019t get me wrong, baby Groot is adorable, but not worth much as far as the story is concerned.<\/p>\n

Drax is the hero of this movie. From his inappropriate laughter to his obliviousness there\u2019s not a dull moment with him.<\/p>\n

Verdict:<\/strong> a great movie especially for the younger audience. After the release of Logan you might have thought Marvel had shifted focus to an older target demographics but you\u2019re wrong. There\u2019s still something out there fore everyone.<\/p>\n
