A Time to Heal is part of a series of Star Trek Novels that cover the events that took place between "Star Trek: Insurrection" and "Star Trek: Nemesis."
Written by David Mack, this is a strong entry in the Star Trek Novel sub-genre of Science Fiction. Following the Tezwa revolution, Commander Riker has been kidnapped and is being held by rebel forces still loyal to the Tezwa Regime. His friends must navigate the difficult mixture of political intrigue, military occupation and societal chaos as they seek to re-establish order to the war-torn planet. Their resources are taxed but they will not abandon Riker to his death.
As Pickard, La Forge and the others work to avert disaster and rescue their friend, political forces work behind the scenes to thwart them.
This novel keeps in the tradition of fast, colorful action, strong characterization and solid plotting that Star Trek is famous for. Clever, provocative and emotional, it is a compelling addition to Star Trek literature. Only the use of repetitive wording and the need to tighten individual sentences keeps it from earning 5 stars. I give it a 4, and recommend you pick it up.
