10 Time Travel Movies That Don’t Suck

Time Travel movie are a genre unto themselves. Over the years there have been many, some good, some not, and most somewhere in between. Here are 10 time travel movies which tackle the time travel theme in different ways and, best of all, don’t suck.

1. Groundhog Day (1993)

A weatherman finds himself living the same day over and over and over again. A love story and comedy that makes for a great date movie.

2. Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

An alien fighting soldier finds himself reliving the same day relives the same day over and over again, with the day restarting every time he dies. Underated and under-appreciated, this film works great on several levels and is a lot of fun.

3. Primer (2004)

Four friends and tech entrepreneurs, discover and experiment with the strange capabilities of their new invention. You might not understand it, but it’s worth the effort.

4. Source Code (2011)

A soldier wakes up in someone else’s body and discovers he’s part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train. A mission he has only 8 minutes to complete. Well done.

5. Twelve Monkeys (1995)

In a future world devastated by disease, a convict is sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet. A classic that might take more than one view to fully absorb.

6. Looper (2012)

In the future, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent into the past where a hit man awaits . Joe, a mob hit man, learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ on him by sending Joe’s future self back into the past for assassination. Seems like a lot of trouble to knock someone off, but entertaining.

7. About Time (2013)

At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think. Another love story film.

8. The Jacket (2005)

A Gulf War veteran is sent to a mental institution for insane criminals where he becomes the subject of experiments.

9. Triangle (2009)

When struck by mysterious weather conditions, passengers on a yachting trip in the Atlantic jump to another ship only to experience greater havoc. Yikes.

10. Time Lapse (2014)

Three friends discover a machine that can pictures showing events in the future and conspire to use it for personal gain. They didn’t do it the way I would have, but I appreciated the effort.
